- Conditions where an increase in fluid to the heart may be detrimental
- Congestive heart failure
- Pre-existing deep vein thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, or pulmonary embolism
The Kendall SCD SmartFlow™ System with Kendall SCD™ Express and Comfort Sleeves provides circumferential compression that is clinically proven to aid in the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in the at‑risk patient. The Kendall SCD™ Comfort Sleeves are designed to address the issue of sweat and heat with their moisture and thermal management properties, allowing air circulation on the patient's skin and minimizing sweat pools, irritation, and itchiness to improve patient acceptance. As part of the Kendall SCD SmartFlow™ System, Kendall SCD™ Comfort Sleeves include the following features:
Sleeve design
- Compresses a larger surface area with a circumferential design, clearing blood from behind the valve cusp where most DVTs form, and delivering therapy regardless of sleeve position, which may save nursing time
- Squeezes the leg in a ‘milking’ action using sequential inflation of three separate chambers
- Increases blood flow by inflating each chamber sequentially at a different pressure
Sustainability through the reprocessed sleeve program
- Eliminate managing multiple vendors and SKUs
- Provide a more stable and efficient product supply with predictable cost savings
- Protect the environment by diverting medical waste from landfills
The Kendall SCD™ Pediatric Comfort Sleeves address smaller patients with a higher risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) from various factors, including, but not limited to:
- Severe trauma
- Long periods of immobilization
- Central venous catheter placement
- ICU stay
- Inherited blood clotting disorder
- Underlying medical condition, such as cancer or obesity
- Oral contraceptive use
The Kendall SCD™ Comfort Sleeve in knee length and size small fits 90% of children aged four to nine.
For appropriate fitting:
- Measure the circumference of the patient’s calf at the widest part, and refer to the ordering information tab for size reference.
- Place the inside of the sleeve under the patient’s leg, position in accordance with the orientation indicated by the printed arrows, and ensure the heel is aligned to the edge of the sleeve.
- Wrap the sleeve around the leg and fasten the Velcro™ closure tabs from the ankle up the leg.
- Leave approximately two fingers of space between the deflated sleeve and the patient’s leg.
